GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS (7 October 2011). The Rotary Club of Galveston will host its 35th annual Chili Supper, Thursday, November 3rd. To be held in the Ball High School Cafeteria, 4115 Avenue O, serving hours are 5pm-8pm. In addition to great “homemade” chili and rice, guests can purchase tamales to accompany their chili supper, as well as a variety of home-made and specialty desserts. Many of the delicious desserts available for sale will be made from the Rotarians’ family recipes - handed down from generation to generation, as well as tempting desserts donated by Galveston College’s culinary arts department, UTMB, and many of the Island’s best restaurants. Guests may dine in or bring containers for “to go” orders. “Take out” containers will also be available.

Entertainment, an incredible silent auction, and free children’s books to be given away will round out the evening’s activities. All proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit the Rotary Club of Galveston’s Foundation, which in turn sponsors and supports many essential programs and projects that benefit the Galveston community.

Besides great chili, the silent auction and the Children’ Books Giveaway are two of the most popular reasons Galvestonians turn out for this big event. Again this year, Half-Price Books in Clear Lake has generously donated multiple cases of children’s books – to be given away free during serving hours, 5-8pm. To date, auction items that will be included in the exciting silent auction include original art, a stay at Moody Gardens, a Spa Package- courtesy of the San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center; wine baskets, and a variety of valuable gift certificates for entertainment and dining establishments in the Galveston area.

Tickets are $7 and may be purchased in advance from any member of the Rotary Club of Galveston, or purchased at the door. For more information about purchasing tickets or donating to the silent auction, call Harold Fattig, Executive Secretary for the Rotary Club of Galveston, at 409.763.8688 or 409.692.3838.

The SeniorShare Program of Galveston County

The SeniorShare Program of Galveston County, Inc. was founded in an effort reduce holiday depression among senior citizens, and to provide a community where no elderly persons go unnoticed or unrecognized during the holday season. We want to celebrate being a Senior Citizen. As of now we have 2 celebrations per year, the first Gala is “Celebrate America” held at the beginning of July, and the 2nd Gala is the “SeniorShare Holiday Gala”. We provide a great holiday meal, gifts, groceries and lots of entertainment like The Pee Wee Bowan Band and school choirs and because of our great sponsors, great door prizes.

We need volunteers to help us decorate and serve our seniors. We need Corporate Sponsors and LCD T.V. sponsors and meal sponsors. We ask our sponsors to come to the events, they truly are a heartwarming experience!

Call 281.389.7590 to join us to entertain Senior Citizens or email us at entertainingseniors@gmail.com to volunteer.
